Whistler Day Adventure

British Columbia will host the 2010 Winter Olympic, and many of the major sporting events will take place around the beautiful alpine Village of Whistler. Voted the Best North American Ski destination it is great fun in the summer as well.
Just want to get to Whistler? This tour is a great alternative to the standard airport transfer and offers a very flexible itinerary.

The adventure starts with a pickup at your hotel, cruise ship, or the Vancouver Airport, and a drive across the famous Lions Gate bridge and onto the Sea to Sky Highway. Truly in this case getting there, is half the fun. Hugging the side of the coast mountains, over looking the Howe Sound the drive is worth the trip all by it's self. Stopping at Shannon Falls and Brandywine Falls you will arrive at Whistler in time for a leisurely lunch. Optional stops include:

  • British Columbia Mining Museum - Where you can get a underground tour in a real copper and gold mine.
  • West Coast Railway Heritage Park - For a look at engines, cars, and rolling stock from out railway heritage. Including the famous Royal Hudson Steam Locomotive.
  • Eagle watching View Point - Where hundreds of Bald Eagles come to roost. (Season Permitting)

After lunch enjoy some free time to explore Whistler village or visit the top of the ski area via the high speed gondola (extra fee for gondola). When you are ready, we will take a leisurely return drive into the sunset arriving back in Vancouver in the early evening. Or if you prefer this tour can be used as a transfer to Whistler in the ski season.

During my last year in forest fire suppression (1990), I was the "Initial Attack" base manager out of Pemberton just north of Whistler. My crews and I fought a lot of fires in the mountains over looking this area, in places you can only get to by helicopter. So I feel a certain affection for Whistler having invested so much perspiration to keep in green.
